Thank you!

Only 15 days to go until public beta! But before we open up, we'd like to take this opportunity to thank you - our alpha users - for your support, your feedback, your bug reports, your blog posts, your translations and everything else you've done to help us improve and spread Wuala! It's great seeing Wuala being used by thousands of users and hundreds of communities day by day. You've helped us a lot to get there, and we will need your help again once we launch the public beta to spread the word about Wuala.

By the way, we're throwing a little launch party on August 14 in our office (in Zurich, Switzerland) and we'd love to invite you as well. Unfortunately, space is very limited, so if you're interested, please write a comment to this blog post and we'll send you further information by email.

Hope to see you soon!

Wuala Launch on August 14!

As announced in our newsletter and at the TechCrunch meet-up in Zurich, we will launch the long-awaited public beta on August 14! That's only 26 days to go, but for all those who can't wait that long, join Wuala during our sneak preview over this weekend!

After almost four years of development and about ten months in closed alpha with thousands of very active users sharing millions of files, we're ready to open it up to everyone. The public beta can be started directly from the web - no software installation and no user account required anymore. This allows you to send links to anyone, even to people who don't have Wuala yet. By clicking on the link, they'll end up in Wuala in the linked folder and can download your recommended files. Folders and groups can also be password-protected.

The news has spread rapidly :) Check out our recent coverage on TechCrunch, Telecom Paper, Center Networks, Neuerdings (in German) and many other blogs.

Btw: The scrolling LED badge (pictured) reads "Wuala launch in 28 days" - Oona, Luzi and me were walking around with those at the TechCrunch meet-up (see photos in Wuala).

40 start-ups at the first TechCrunch Zurich meet-up

What a great meet-up! The Swisscom Bluewin tower was packed with journalists, bloggers, start-ups, VCs and other people from the scene. It started off with Peter Hogenkamp interviewing Mike Butcher. Afterwards, about 40 start-ups (from A like Amazee to Z like Zattoo) introduced themselves in 20-second pitches and then demoed their products during the party. There were also video interviews on the 10th floor, which were live-streamed on TechCrunch UK. Read more about the event here, here, here or anywhere here. We've compiled photos, 20-second pitches, videos, logos, and the portfolio in Wuala in the TechCrunch Zurich group. Check it out!

Thanks Mike Butcher. Thanks to our co-organizers Doodle, Newscred, Sandbox, as well as Jasper, Alfonso, and Johannes. A big thanks to all sponsors - Swisscom, Red Alpine, zanox, Holtzbrinck eLab, Sun Microsystems and Creathor Venture - for making this possible. Not to forget Amiando for providing ticketing and badges and Outbox for print services (nice portfolio!).

It was the first, but probably not the last TechCrunch Zurich meet-up! See you next time when TechCrunch is in town again!

Wuala is now available in Russian

We are very happy to announce the translation of Wuala into Russian! Our thanks go to Marianna who put a lot of effort into this - Перевод на русский язык Mari Bastashevski!

So when we compare our two youngest translations, Russian and Swedish, I have to say that one is full of scary strange characters ... and the other one is Russian ;-)

You can change the language under menu Tools > Language on Win/Linux. On Mac, it uses the system language.

TechCrunch Meet-up Zurich

TechCrunch, the most popular web 2.0 blog, comes to Zurich! We're organizing a meet-up where we gather the Swiss web 2.0 crowd. The party will take place on the top floor of the Swisscom Bluewin tower (stunning view, see picture) in Zurich and is limited to 150 people (tickets are going fast!)

Not only will some start-ups which hitherto were practically in stealth mode give a first glimpse at their products, no, the rumor mill even rumbles that Wuala has an announcement to make. The days are counted. Be prepared for fun and excitement!
